The Roda Bodega was founded over 30 years ago by Mario Rotllant Sola and Carmen Daurella de Aguilera. (The name Roda comes from the first two initials of their surnames.) Along with producing fabulous wines, Roda has gained renown for its meticulous research into Tempranillo, one of Spain’s oldest indigenous grape varieties.
Using modern technology, Roda have identified 552 individual clones, from which only 20 have been selected for propagation - chosen for the quality they deliver in specific vineyard plots. Their wines are neither old world nor new world, earning them the title “the most modern of the traditionalists and the most traditional of the modernists.” All I can say is that if you enjoy the wines of Muga and La Rioja Alta (like I do), you cannot help but love these, and the La Horra wines are pretty flash too.
