CONTADOR Rioja
The winemaker/owner at Bodega Contador is Benjamin Romeo. If you remember any of the stunning Artadi wines from the eighties and nineties, then you will have drunk his wine before as Benjamin was the winemaker there for nearly 20 years. The 1998 Artadi El Pison was an absolute revelation for me. It had all the concentration, length, and flavour of a great Grand Cru Burgundy. These are unashamedly modern Spanish wines with fruit galore – they are generous but silky smooth, elegant and food friendly.
